ALAN LEON - A BIT OF HISTORY

Hello,
I'm Alan Leon, founder of Sacred Heritage Travel.

~ Alan with his wife Namae Ntumae

My decades of experience in finding healing through nature, sacred sites and tribal traditions has created a unique ability to create itineraries to enhance travel steeped in growth consciousness.

Here is a little of my story .....

I left home in '72 and went outback in the Northern Rocky mountains . Usually alone I would wander the wilds for 2-4 months at a time. Thousands of nights in camp over two decades added up to be something like eight years of wilderness hermitage.

Born to be a guide!
The natural born traveler.

Spirit encounters, experienced since childhood, increased the longer I lived out of our cultural context. The wilderness years gifted me with a few total immersion full waking visions. One desperate night, early in my seeking, I cried and cursed, seeking any kind of answer from God.

In morning's first light I experienced a wondrous inner/outer encounter with Divine Mother. Though this was not the direction a thought I was looking She has been a great help introducing me some of the rest of the family, most notably our loving and fully supportive All Father; beginning to answer to both my parental and spiritual (religious) wounds.

Like many of us my life began in the wounds of our culture and as a child I grew into the idea that I was unacceptable as well as dammed. On the dark side, this explains why I was much happier alone. On the light side, the mountain spirits and ancient ones have assured me that they called me to return to a natural place of Self.

Years of mountaineering (with hundreds of peaks climbed, cliffs dangled from, extreme skiing, and semi-wild horses) built a physical balance that has translated into willing ability to seek and work for inner balance. Extended quiet has opened instinct and innate meditation to inspired inner guidance. Spirit in nature in many times over proved that we are loved, supplanting my loneliness. As my meditation grew natural often wild animals, touchingly close, synchronized my seeking; at times birds would sit on me as I prayed.

I have lived many stories of Spirit encounter, telepathic animals, life path synchronicity and psychic shamans. A few of these stories can be found in this web site. And yes the book will be written (someday).

"Prohibited to pass"
Oh well . . .

For healing of all aspects of life it has been the shamans, at times deeply subtle in their psychic insights that have been the most beneficial. They have been life-material proof of spirit connection and God love.

Many of them intimately know the same spirits I was encountering and at times several widely separated shamans would say the same thing and continue the same story. Often it has been they who first invite me home to sit in their kitchens and swap stories as well as to their ceremonies.

Stairs to Putucusi
. . . Putucusi ascension anyway!

Though suffering the childhood expectation of rejection I was readily accepted by many simple earth people who themselves have long suffered apartheid like rejection. Our wounds knew each other. The open love and inclusion in many villages began healing my social fears (a long and on-going road). In 1980 I began guiding, with grateful respect, to the mountains and tribes.

All this is to say that I too know and live parts of the positive Self work you can experience through focused and worthy travel.

It is only just now (February 2008) that loved ones and trusted advisors have convinced me to write some of this 'Alan story'. When next I return from Peru and Australia I'll also include some stories of our indigenous guides.

Here is an excerpt from an interview with Alan
in "Pilgrims" - a publication of Windtree Travel.

The trips offered in this edition of "Pilgrims" are organized and led by Alan Leon, an extraordinary man with a unique history.

When he was 18 years old, Alan began living in the Canadian north woods, camping out and living partially off the land. For years he roamed up and down the Rockies from Alaska and the Yukon to Montana and Wyoming.

Since then he has traveled far and deep.

"In the winter I'd go into the deep snow and dig a hole to live in. Day after day there was nothing to do but listen to what I observed and felt. I found a divinity, a prayer, in communion with my inner Self. But also, without the blinders of our culture, I was able to see outside the cultural box; so there came encounters with various forms of the spiritual world."

Going off alone, Alan has spent a total of eight years in wilderness hermitage.

Soon tales of a "crazy white boy" living in the wilds reached Native American elders who began sharing their history and culture with him. To earn a grubstake for his equipment and food he worked as a shepherd, a cowboy, and pack train guide, horse packing people and cargo back and forth in the mountains.

After eighteen years in the North, his heart told him to go to Arizona.
"My heart didn't tell me why. It just said Go." He wound up in Sedona, a place of surpassing beauty and great natural power that attracts spiritual teachers and students from all over the world. He studied meditation and sacred movement with Asian teachers. As before, he lived out of doors, camping in Sedona's red rock canyons.

From Sedona he went to Hawaii to study with the Kahuna.
"After Hawaii I ran into some Elders from the ancient tribes of New Zealand -- the Maori and the Moriori. They were sent here by their Grandmothers who said they needed to look for their Path Finder and it turned out to be me -- not only in this life but in ages past. With them I did a lot of traveling, through Canada and the States and then down through Mexico among the Huichole, the Aztec, and the Maya. It was at the request of those same New Zealand Grandmothers that we went to Peru."

Throughout the Andes and the Amazon he was recognized as a person of unusual spiritual attainment and power.
"In Peru I was taken far into the mountains to a family of high priests who had never before received foreign visitors. That night sleeping in the stone hut with the family, we were all in the same dream together and woke up at exactly the same moment."Grandfather cried out, 'You're here! You're part of the family! You're here.' We had a celebration that went through the whole next day and well into the night."

All over the Andes and the Amazon he met and worked with authentic native healers and shamans. They told him that it was time for them to pass on their ancient knowledge to outsiders. They asked Alan to "bring the people."

So now you are invited ...
